Capture™ Insecticide-Miticide: A New Product for Cotton

James J. Knabke

ABSTRACT

Capture(TM) Insecticide-Miticide is a new broad spectrum pyrethroid containing the active ingredient biphenthrin (proposed common name). It has been extensively tested since 1982 on cotton under the code name FMC 54800. An EUP was granted in 1984. Insect control is comparable to or better than Ammo® Insecticide (cypermethrin) at equivalent rates. For example, at rates of 0.04-0.1 lb. ai/acre, Capture will effectively control bollworms, boll weevil, pink bollworm, cotton leaf perforator, whiteflies and aphids. In addition to insect control, Capture also controls the two spotted spider mite and carmine spider mite at rates of 0.06-0.1 lb. ai/acre. Use of Capture in a program with other cotton insecticides eliminates the need to treat with a standard miticide.
