Cotton Division HVI Operations for the 1991 Crop

Wendell H. Wilbanks

ABSTRACT

High Volume Instruments (HVI) were used in classifying 98.8 percent of the 16.2 million bales the cotton Division classed from the 1991 upland cotton crop. This compares to the use of HVI for classifying 53.5 percent of the 14.5 million bales classed from the 1990 upland cotton crop. The classification was done using 175 HVI lines in 19 classing offices in 1990 and 210 HVI lines in 18 classing offices in 1991. In an attempt to stay current with ginnings in 1991, 15 of the classing offices operated on a three shift basis.
