Cotton Aphid Infestations in West Texas: A Growing Management Problem

J.P. Leser, C.T. Allen, and T. W. Fuchs

ABSTRACT

Cotton aphid problems have escalated in the west Texas area since becoming a widespread pest of cotton in 1979. The development of resistance over the last four years has brought us to the critical need for the development of a more holistic approach to aphid management. Insecticidal and ecological studies summarized in this report provide the basis for management guidelines developed by the Cotton Aphid Task Force to address the growing aphid problem and to safeguard the few remaining effective insecticides for cotton aphid control.
