ABSTRACT

Male pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders) moth catches in gossyplure-baited traps were significantly reduced each year during the two years following the initiation of a mandatory short-season cotton system in 1989 in the Imperial Valley, CA. In addition, fewer larvae per cotton boll occurred in 1990 and 1991 as compared to 1989. Fiber quality of commercial cotton fields sampled was improved in 1990 as compared to 1989. The data for the 1991 crop is not yet available. The data suggest that some pink bollworm male moth migration into the Imperial Valley, CA, may be occurring late in the season.
