Design of Machinery for Use in the Production of Food and Fiber

Max R. North

ABSTRACT

The design of machinery for use in the production of food and fiber have historically been governed by the needs and desires of farmers and ranchers.

Machinery manufacturers have listened to their customers to determine the requirements for new machines and then applied the latest technology available to meet their stated requirements.

Manufacturers had the responsibility of producing these products at a competitive price and with competitive reliability and durability.

The system has served all parties well for a number of years.

Times are changing for the producer of farm machinery as with all other businesses. Markets are now worldwide for cotton, soybeans, as well as for farm machinery. I could guess that there are tractors in your local county or parish from five to six different countries. It is relatively easy for foreign countries to sell in this country. All they need to do is find a buyer. Products going the other way can be a different story, as you know.
