A Geographic Information System for Mississippi's Pre-Eradication Program

ABSTRACT

The USDA-ARS, Boll Weevil Research Unit at Mississippi state, Mississippi has been involved in developing and utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for boll weevil research and suppression programs. The events leading to the decision to establish a GIS to service the pre-eradication program in Mississippi are discussed. The requirements for establishing a GIS and some of its capabilities are presented.
