The Flow of U.S. Cotton in the Domestic and International Markets

Gregg Mayberry and C.W. Herndon, Jr.

ABSTRACT

Participants in the cotton market often do not realize the complexity of the domestic and international dimensions of the world cotton market. Many producers and industry personnel are simply not aware of the physical flow or flow of ownership of cotton through the marketing channel. The general purpose of this study is to describe, in general, the U.S. cotton market.

This study is basically an overview of previous studies, designed to familiarize producers and other industry participants with the U.S. cotton market. This report represents a description of the flow of cotton through the domestic and export markets including a listing and brief description of the end uses of cotton, and identification of the participants influencing the U.S. cotton market.
