Risk Management in Getting and Keeping a Stand: Diseases and Chemicals

Earl B. Minton

ABSTRACT

The seedling disease complex is a major obstacle in cotton production world wide. The estimated yield losses in the United States caused by seedling diseases have averaged 2.9% per year over the last 30 years. Higher losses occur in some years than in others, and in some areas or fields than in others. Disease severity depends on the quantity and quality of causal pathogens, soil moisture and temperature, weather conditions and other factors that adversely affect cottonseed and seedlings.
