ABSTRACT

Interest in the production on cotton in narrow row cotton has increased. Growers who are switching to narrow row cotton production are finding both similarities and differences in equipment and management requirements over that of conventional row cotton are finding that they can benefit from changing to smaller tires, adapting middle buster type bedders and adapting numerous guidance systems to hold their implement on the row. Growers are finding that pest management for narrow row cotton is not that much different than for conventional. Both systems require timely and thorough scouting and treatments. Plant mapping is helping these growers make better, more specific pest management decisions. Plant size management is critical in narrow rows. Management of the cotton plant's size is best accomplished by a complete management system employing fertilizer, plant growth regulators and plant population.
