ABSTRACT

The release of three new F2 from Hybrid cotton varieties will further establish CHEMBRED, Inc. as a national cotton seed company. CHEMBRED Acala CB 7, bred for the San Joaquin Valley (SJV) of California and approved by the SJV Cotton Board in March 1991, marks CHEMBRED's entry into the SJV market. State test data, three years (1988-90) and twenty locations, indicates that Acala CB 7 yields competitively with the two leading SJV varieties, Acala GC 510 and Acala SJ 2, while exhibiting superior fiber qualities. CHEMBRED Acala CB 1210, bred for the Acala producing regions of New Mexico, West Texas, and Arizona has consistently out-yielded Acala 1517-88 in New Mexico state tests, four years (1988-91) and seven locations. Fiber quality of Acala CB 1210 is comparable to 1517 Acalas. CHEMBRED CB 1233 completed its second year of state testing in 1991 in the delta and southeast regions of the cotton belt. Results to date, two years and eight locations, indicate that CB 1233 will out-yield the predominantly grown varieties of these areas, e.g., DPL 20, DPL 50, and DPL 90, with fiber qualities mostly in the HVI premium range. Overall, CHEMBRED's F2 from Hybrid cotton varieties continue to perform on a superior level providing growers across the cotton belt a consistently profitable alternative to conventional pure-line cotton varieties.
