Cotton fields were surveyed immediately before harvest in five major cotton production counties (Lubbock, Hale, Hockley, Lynn, Crosby) on the Texas Southern High Plains. A total of 50 fields were selected at random. In each field, four sites were selected and mature weeds were identified and -counted in 100 row feet. Three grass and eleven broadleaf species were identified. Silver-leaf nightshade was the most common species identified (76% of locations), followed by groundcherry, Palmer Amaranth and johnsongrass. Of all species, silverleaf nightshade was present in greatest density (6/100 row ft.) in infested fields. |
