Cotton Yields under Trickle Irrigation with Varying Water and Nitrogen Levels

ABSTRACT

Field studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of varying nitrogen and water levels on drip irrigated cotton. The field plots where located in West Texas, thirty-five miles east of Midland and ten miles west of Garden City, on land donated by an independent cotton producer. The donated field was ten acres (1100'X 400') in size and located on a fairly uniform and shallow profile of Reagan silty clay loam soil. The profile extended on average thirty-six inches before reaching a very thick and less permeable layer of caliche. Nitrogen rates applied were 57, 88, 128, 163, and 200 lb N/A, with water application levels varying from 0.16 to 1.75 inches per week.
