Fineness/Immaturity Determinations on a Series of International Cottons Using Airflow Method

ABSTRACT

Twenty-seven samples of international cottons were examined on an automated arealometer-based, air-flow system that provided both fiber fineness A-values and fiber immaturity D-values. These values were compared with fineness A-values and circularity indicators obtained from image analysis techniques. For the most part, A-value comparisons, as well as maturity indicators of the two systems, provide respectable correlations. There are, however, some unusual trends at the high fineness and immaturity ends of the twenty-seven cottons. A few of the cottons are out of line with the others and nonlinearity begins to occur between aired results with extended range.
