Beet Armyworm Control in South Carolina

M.J. Sullivan, S.G. Turnipseed, and T.W. Smith

ABSTRACT

The beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hubner), is generally a foliar feeder in cotton but will move to squares and bolls. Efficacy trials conducted in Barnwell County, SC, indicated Larvin and Curacron were the only currently labelled materials that provided adequate control. Several different biologicals, Bacillus thuringiensis, were tested for efficacy; none provided adequate control of beet armyworm larvae.
