Response of Cotton Aphids to Pyrethroids and Organophosphate Insecticide Applications

ABSTRACT

Pyrethroid and organophosphate insecticides were evaluated for control of aphids in cotton throughout the mid-south during the 1990 season. A summary of available trials conducted during the 1990 season indicates a general reduction in efficacy of most of the available aphicides compared to the 1989 season. However, Capture at 0.04 to 0.06 lb ai/A and methyl parathion-Thiodan at 1.25 lb ai/A continue to remain the most effective products for control of OP tolerant aphid populations throughout the mid-south. Based on a single study from one years testing, early applications of Ammo or Bidrin had no effect on efficacy of subsequent insecticide applications for aphid control. However, the interaction of early insecticide applications on subsequent aphid populations bears verification through further research.
