Two new herbicides were available in limited supplies in 1982 that resulted in the control of a spectrum of grasses never possible before with a product that could be applied over the top of cotton. Fusilade and Poast, marketed by IGI Americas and BASF, respectively, were granted a specific exemption under provisions of section 18 of FTFRA for the control of bermudagrass and/or rhizome johnsongrass. These are only two of a number of overtop grass control materials that have been included in research plots across the cotton belt the last two years. CGA-82725, a product of CIBA-GEIGY and Dowco-453, a Dow Chemical Company development, are among experimental herbicides that may be commercialized in the future. Others have been and are being evaluated. |
