ABSTRACT

Subjects were exposed to an aerosol of E. coli endotoxin and carbon monoxide diffusion (DL(CO)), pulmonary function and blood cells were determined at various times thereafter. A decrease in DL(CO) and an increase in blood neutrophils was found, with a maximum effect 4 to 8 hours after exposure. No effect on pulmonary function or body temperature was detected.
