A preliminary report on the evaluation of the FMT III was presented to the 1989 Beltwide Conference last year. This report indicated that the instrument had potential as a candidate for use in HVI future systems. Two new model HVI systems equipped with FMT III fineness and maturity testers are now under evaluation at the International Center for Textile Research and Development. Early results show satisfactory precision and improved speeds. Work continues on improving software and operator convenience. The most pressing need at this time is a satisfactory high speed blender to prepare the test specimens.
