Conditioning Seed Cotton for Roller Ginning

M.N. Gillum and C. Owen

ABSTRACT

During the 1989-90 season, a survey was conducted of the United States Roller Ginneries. The survey, which was supported by the Supima Association of America, describes the type and number of equipment in each gin. Also, seed cotton (wagon) and lint (before and after cleaning) samples were collected for fiber-property identification. The purpose of the survey is to identify and evaluate the seed cotton and lint cleaning sequences. This abstract reports on the seedcotton cleaning-equipment findings.
