Preserving Quality with Proper Management of Modules and Covers

M. Herbert Wilcutt

ABSTRACT

Since 1973 or 1974 only one comprehensive study has been conducted to evaluate seed cotton storage conditions and its effects on quality of lint and seed. While this is a tribute to the earlier researchers, lack of new information has led to those of us in the education side of the system's adoption to drum out the same old tune over and over again, while long time users either forgot, learned incorrectly to begin with, or become complacent enough with the system to ignore the sound advice and guidelines these researchers provided. This paper will review briefly the history and trends of the system and touch on the storage research that clearly establishes a basis for preserving quality of lint and seed. It will also identify some of the problems growers are having in using the Module System.
