Improving Quality under a Modern Grading System-Changes to Expect -- 1991 and Beyond

William Mayfield

ABSTRACT

Beginning with the 1991 crop, all Cotton must have a High Volume Instrument (HVI) classification to be eligible for the price support loan. In 1993, independent price differentials will be established for fiber trash content and color rather than lumping them into "grade." Research is currently focused on the development of reliable instruments and procedures to measure several other quality factors by the mid-nineties.
