Movements in an index of export competitiveness for U.S. cotton are updated through 1988-89 and implications of USDA projections for 1989-90 are drawn. Appropriate use of the index is discussed. The report concludes with an examination of progress through December toward reaching USDA's December projection for U.S. cotton exports.
