ABSTRACT
A field technique using neonate larvae and pyrethroid treated vials has been developed that will allow producers and consultants to monitor actual field levels of Heliothis spp. resistance to the pyrethroids. Using this assay, actual field resistance to pyrethroid was not present, even though an adult tobacco budworm assay had resistance totals showing 56% survival at 5.0 µg/vial and 36% survival at 10 µg/vial. As an added benefit of the technique, egg parasitism was monitored and provided data which was used to make treatment decisions based on quantitative data. Treatment data using a pyrethroid with different synergists confirmed pyrethroid efficacy was adequate even at low labeled rates.
