Producing Grass-Free Cotton

John E. Bremer

ABSTRACT

Failure to eliminate grassy weeds from South Texas cotton fields causes great economic loss. Dinitroanalin type herbicides plus other banded or post-directed sprays have provided protection, but erratic field and weather conditions sometime result in less than desirable control, leaving grassy weeds in fields at harvest. Data from a 1982 test indicates that escaped grass can be economically controlled with minimal effort and input. Failure to control escapes, reduces both cotton lint yield and quality.
