Cytokin: The Fruiting Hormone for Cotton

Jerry V. Mayeux

ABSTRACT

Cytokin has been tested across the cotton belt to determine its effectiveness in promoting fruitfulness of cotton (spp.). Extensive plant mapping on several varieties indicate that Cytokin can promote significant increases in boll set and retention at first position fruiting nodes as well as increases in total boll set in the bottom and middle zones of the plant. If the bottom crop is lost then boll set in the mid and top zones is increased. Increased first position fruit set and bottom and middle boll retention by Cytokin contribute to significantly larger early cotton yields. Two years of data indicate that Cytokin and Pix can be used as an interactive tank mix to provide improved plant growth regulation at low Pix rates while providing fruiting enhancement by Cytokin to increase yields significantly.
