A joint project involving Texas Tech University and the Market News Branch, Cotton Division, Agricultural Marketing Service, USDA is underway to develop a system to identify and report cotton prices and quality premiums and discounts under the HVI grading system. Development and testing of models and identification of data needs and sources has been accomplished. Selection of systems for intensive testing and evaluation in the Texas Oklahoma market is in progress. Final system selection and adaptation of the system to other markets remains.
