Pinned Cylinders in Lint Cleaners

Eugene P. Columbus

ABSTRACT

Two pinned cylinders were evaluated in a cut-down version of a lint cleaner and compared to the standard saw cylinder. The pinned cylinder designated No. I (pin height of 0.125 inch and pin density of 42 per square inch) removed foreign matter from the lint at about the same efficiency as the saw cylinder, however, the pinned cylinder did not comb the lint as well as the saw cylinder. Lint cleaned by pinned cylinder No. 1 had the same grade and trash code but contained more neps, had slightly shorter fiber length and more short fibers than the lint cleaned by the saw cylinder. Pinned cylinder No. 2 (pin height of 0.75 inch and pin density of 5 per square inch) did not clean the lint as well and therefore, did not grade as well as lint cleaned by the other two cylinders.
