Impact of IPM on Acreage Scouted and Insecticide Use

W.P. Lambert

ABSTRACT

The practice of monitoring cottonfields for insect and other pests (scouting) and the efficient use of insecticides are components of integrated pest manage ment (IPM) programs. During the period of 1972 through 1982 the Extension Service in many cotton producing states has promoted the use of IPM practices. A survey of Extension Entomologists in 15 states indicates that the total acreage scouted has increased while insecticide use has declined. However, several factors are involved in these changes.
