Georgia Cotton: A New Direction and its Impact

Foy D. Mills, Jr. and George O. Westberry

ABSTRACT

Increased cotton acreage in Georgia has contributed to rising cotton production in the Southeastern U.S. Most of the growth in Georgia cotton acreage has occurred in the southern portion of the state. Reasons for this growth and the subsequent impact on the Georgia economy were examined. Georgia crop enterprise budgets, "Best Crop" (opportunity cost assessment program) and cotton production trends and values were used in the analysis.
