Experimental Herbicides for Broadleaf Weed Control in Cotton

R.S. Baker

ABSTRACT

Four new herbicides were evaluated at Stoneville, MS, in 1988. The two most exciting were DPX-T9595 and KIH-8921 because of their selectivity on cotton. Postemergence over-the-top applications controlled morningglory with only minimal injury to cotton. Longer term control with KIH-8921 than with DPX-T9595 indicated greater preemergence activity. However, where morningglory infestations were high, multiple applications appeared necessary with either herbicide in order to obtain season-long control. C-4243 and V-53482 have possibilities for preemergence use and are very active postemergence. However, the lack of postemergence selectivity on cotton severely limits the use of these two herbicides.
