ABSTRACT

Pyrethroid resistance monitoring was continued for the third year in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma with pheromone trap-collected tobacco budworm, Heliothis virescens (F.),males. As in 1986 and 1987, resistance was widespread. Percent survival of tested insects declined in Arkansas, indicating decreased resistance in 1988. Survival increased in Oklahoma and remained about the same in Texas. Resistance levels were highest in south and central Texas and lower in north and west Texas. Monitoring for resistance in the cotton bollworm, H. zea Boddie, indicated the presence of resistance in areas where resistance was also widespread in the tobacco budworm.
