Evaluation of Capture 2.0 EC and Other Insecticides and Miticides in San Joaquin Valley Cotton

R.D. Kukas

ABSTRACT

Capture 2.0 EC insecticide/miticide is a new product from FMC Corporation containing the active ingredient bifenthrin. A small plot trial was conducted in 1988 to evaluate bifenthrin for insect and spider mite control, compared to several insecticides applied alone and in combination with dicofol. Results of the trial show that bifenthrin provides excellent initial and residual control of beet armyworm. Spider mite control following each application of bifenthrin was equal to the standard treatments of dicofol and profenofos, and yield of lint per acre from the bifenthrin or bifenthrin plus dicofol treatments was significantly greater than the other treatments. With this broadspectrum of activity, bifenthrin represents a unique new tool for cotton pest management in the San Joaquin Valley.
