Cotton grown near the Mississippi River in the Delta area has had high cost of boll weevil control in the past several years. Planting a trap crop of cotton in early season (thirty days before normal planting dates) and planting a trap crop of cotton again in late season (August, thirty days before defoliation) has proven to significantly reduce the cost of boll weevil control and has reduced the total cost of insect control in cotton production.
