The rearing, sterilization, and packaging operations to supply sterile weevils for the 1988 Alabama Sterile Release Program maintained production and release as scheduled. A total of 21.2 million weevils were produced with 13.5 million irradiated for release. This presentation posts production output, operational requirements of materials and labor, and cost per 1,000-weevil unit for the 1988 boll weevil rearing program. Component phases of the rearing processes are evaluated for operational effectiveness and expanded production potential. This technology is fully developed and available for adaptation to a massive release program.
