Developing and Implementing Scouting Techniques in Georgia

G.A. Herzog and W.R. Lambert, III

ABSTRACT

Conventional scouting techniques have proven to be inadequate for monitoring populations of boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis (Boh.), when compounds such as the recently introduced dielubenzuron are used for control. Results of a study to develop a new scouting techniques for monitoring efficacy of ovicidal compounds will be discussed. Implememtation of the new scouting technique would parallel that of the new system of evaluating plant bug (Lygus spp.) damage that has recently been introduced for cotton insect scouts in Georgia. The scouting technique as well as methods of implementation will be discussed.
