Use of Trend Analysis to Improve Precision in Yield Trials

Daryl Bowman

ABSTRACT

The Proc Trend Analysis was compared for efficiency in reducing error variance to the randomized complete block design of the Eastern Regional Test and High Quality Test in North Carolina in 1987. Relative efficiency of the Proc Trend analysis was 126 and 130%, respectively, when analyzing yield. Trend analysis appears to offer improved precision without restricting entry numbers like that in the lattice design in cotton yield trials.
