Genotypic Response to Narrow Rows at Temple, Texas

C. Wayne Smith, J.M. Chandler, and J.E. Morrison

ABSTRACT

Eight genotypes exhibiting varying degrees of compact growth were planted into corn residue at Temple, Texas in 1988. Rows were 16 or 24 inches apart and no inseason tillage was practiced. Rows planted 16 inches apart significantly outyielded rows planted 24 inches apart. Arkot 518, Deltapine 50, and Paymaster 145 outyielded several strains having a more compact phenology.
