Heat Unit Requirements and Yield Impact of Late-Season Blooms in Drip Irrigated Cotton

Joe Henggeler, Warren Multer, and Gina Halfmann

ABSTRACT

Blooms were tagged for three years on various privately owned drip irrigated cotton fields with the purpose of seeing the significance of late season fruit. Only 14% of the yield was found to come from blooms set on and after peak bloom. Generally, 500 HU(60m) are required to allow a bloom even to have a chance at producing lint.
