Response of Upland Cotton to Applications of Soluble Calcium

S.D. Lyda and J.L. Riggs

ABSTRACT

A soluble calcium fertilizer, calcium monocarbamide, was applied in the furrow at two locations and applied foliarly to cotton at three locations in central Texas in 1988. The chemical was applied in 20 gals solution/acre at rates of 2, 4, and 6 lbs calcium/acre. Foliar applications were made a minimum of three times during the growing season. Data were taken on emergence, Phymatotrichum root rot incidence, fruitfulness, yield and fiber properties. Leaf disks were taken from each treatment for calcium and potassium analyses. No significant differences were found for any of the above parameters; however, differences were observed in the field between treated and untreated plants in the irrigated tests.
