ABSTRACT

Controlling broadleaf weeds in cotton is an essential part of protecting cotton yields. Results of a two year EUP using Cobra 2EC Herbicide as a post directed, application have shown this herbicide effectively controls many problem broadleaf weeds in cotton. Cobra was applied on 6-8 inch tall cotton at 12.5 fl. oz. per acre plus 1-2 pints per acre of crop oil concentrate in 20-30 GPA spray volume using flatfan nozzles at 20-30 psi. In over 60 grower and research trials conducted between 1987 and 1988, Cobra Herbicide averaged better than 85% control of such problem broadleaf weeds as Cocklebur, Prickly sida, Morningglories, and Spurges.

In 80% of the trials Cobra was compared to either Bladex or Bladex plus MSMA. Of the growers responding 96% said that Cobra was equal to or better than the product they were currently using for post directed control of broadleaf weeds in their cotton. 87% of the Cobra users indicated they experienced no crop injury. Of those reporting some crop injury, comments show that injury was limited to those bottom leaves which were contacted by the herbicide at the time of application. No yield effects were reported by those growers which reported crop injury. 98% of the respondents indicated that they would use Cobra again.
