Crop Simulation for the Analysis and Management of Cotton Production Systems: Overview and the Status of the Plant Science Research

D.N. Baker

ABSTRACT

The cotton simulation model GOSSYM provides a framework which focuses, targets and applies all of our research. Much of this is basic research dealing, for example, at present, with the physiological process rate responses to the plant growth regulators PIX and PREP and to the systemic insecticide TEMIK. We envision a system where COMAX contains sufficiently sophisticated rules that it, in combination with GOSSYM, can help a farmer optimize complex arrays of inputs including plant growth regulators, irrigation and fertilizer for any combination of variety, weather and soil conditions, and we are expanding the system to deal with insect pest conditions, and ground water contamination.
