ABSTRACT

Efforts, supported by the Joint Industry/Government/Labor Committee for the Prevention of Byssinosis, to show the equivalence of batch washed cotton to cotton washed using continuous processes have resulted in positive findings. The present report describes a batch washing experiment using modern commercial batch washing equipment. Potassium and reducing sugar analyses of the washed cottons shown in earlier research to indicate successful continuous washing procedures, will demonstrate the equivalence of these two washing procedures in removing surface contaminants and residual materials.
