ABSTRACT

Stoneville 453 originated from a hand pollinated cross between Stoneville 30603 X Stoneville 213 made in 1967 at Stoneville, MS. From 1968 until 1980 the material was worked as single row plots with 8 generations of single plant selections and 4 generations of bulk harvesting. In 1979 a single plant was selected and planted in 1980 as progeny row # 96453. This progeny row was bulk harvested and yield tested in 1981 as strain # 96453. In subsequent years the strain was tested as Stoneville 453.

Stoneville 453 is similar to Stoneville 506 in plant height, plant structure and maturity. It has a showy, medium small boll with good storm tolerance. Leaves are average size with a dark green color and distinct cup shape. The variety is slightly tolerant to Verticillium wilt and susceptible to Fusarium wilt, root knot nematode and bacterial blight.
