Cotton Mechanization Research: A Look at Present Technology and Future Developments

Lambert H. Wilkes

ABSTRACT

Mechanization of the production and harvesting operations has replaced most of the labor intensive functions such as thinning, weed control and harvesting. Continuous refinement of present machines and practices will yield small gains in the future due to the success in the past 30 years. The greatest impacts of changes that will lower the cost of production in the future will occur when new technology will bring about revolutionary machines and practices.
