Field Evaluation of a Dynamic Threshold for Control of Heliothis Spp. In Cotton in Mississippi

W.F. Kitten and R.G. Luttrell

ABSTRACT

There were no differences in the number of insecticide applications for Heliothis spp. control in cotton fields where the Dynamic threshold versus fields where the Current Insect Control Recommendations threshold (CIC) were used as control guidelines. However, the majority of insecticide applications in the Dynamic threshold fields occurred earlier in the growing season (during peak fruiting) as opposed to applications in the CIC threshold fields which occurred later in the growing season. Boll counts at the end of the season indicated no differences in numbers per acre between the Dynamic and the CIC threshold strategies.
