Conference Chairman's Address

Bruce Brumfield

ABSTRACT

U.S. cotton producers must continue to press for a continuity of sound agricultural research at all levels in this country because technology transfer aid management are the keys to our success. We must continue to support promising new areas of basic research while maintaining strong applications research methods in order to ultimately improve cotton's marketability worldwide. We must be alert to our political environment to insure we are not strapped with unfair regulations that reduce our efficiency. We must improve our ability as crop Managers so we can more ably respond to what the plant is trying to do . . . yet at the same time we must remain sensitive to the needs of the soil, the water, the air, the plants, the animals, and the people in our physical environment.
