Histamine Release from Guinea Pig Pulmonary Mast Cells by Chemically Modified Dust: Correlation with Terpenoid Aldehydes and Endotoxin

R.D. Stipanovic and M.H. Elissalde

ABSTRACT

The terpenoid and endotoxin content have been determined in chemically modified cotton dust samples obtained from the USDA Southern Regional Research Laboratory, New Orleans, LA. These analyses have been correlated with histamine release from guinea pig pulmonary mast cells. Total terpenoid aldehydes had r = 0.99 while endotoxins had r = 0.81.
