What's Happening in a Conventional Drying System--The Basics

Gino J. Mangialardi, Jr.

ABSTRACT

This paper reviews the fundamentals of moisture removal from cotton. The factors that control the rate and amount of drying are temperature and relative humidity of the drying air, volume and velocity of the drying air, exposure time, and moisture content of the cotton entering a dryer. How these factors interact to affect the driving force that removes moisture in a conventional gin drying system is described.
