ABSTRACT
The introduction and adoption of several cotton varieties are traced for the period 1968-1985. During this time several varieties have been introduced and adopted by farmers. Following acceptance, most varieties have experienced market dissipation. This dissipation is due in large part to the high degree of substitutability among varieties and the marginal differences in profitability across varieties. Newer varieties are adopted because they offer improved yield potential, disease resistance or better lint quality.
