Effect of Acid Residue on Germination and Vigor of Acid Delinted Cottonseed

A.H. Boyd and Prasat Stonsaovapak

ABSTRACT

Methods for determination of the level of sulfuric acid residue on acid delinted cottonseed have not bee uniform among delinters and researchers. Neither has the effect of different levels of sulfuric acid residue on standard germination and other quality tests been established. A procedure for estimation of "apparent acid residue" is presented. Standard germination percentages and ratings for tetrazolium, cool test and accelerated aging decreased as acid level increased. Additional storage and field or soil emergence studies are recommended.
